Integrated Logistical Support (ILS)
Federal Equipment Company has worked since its inception on maintaining a large and comprehensive database of technical manuals, OEM drawings, and Ship-Alt Modification Records. This allows our engineers additional knowledge on the equipment for which they are assigned and allows for thorough decisions in the field. This includes accurate information on parts, pricing, part availability, component data repair data, OEM drawings, revisions to equipment documentation, revisions to technical manuals, and other technical equipment data. Access to this data is provided through two main avenues, computer records and an extensive library of technical manuals, drawings, military specifications, and other pertinent documentation.
First, our modern computer records system makes endless microfiche cross-referencing obsolete, by allowing our engineers to access Federal Supply Codes (FSC), Master Repairable Item Lists (MRIL), Management List-Consolidated (ML-C), Next Highest Assembly (P2300 Series), Master Index Allowance Parts List (MIAPL), Technical Characteristics (IL’s) , and many other sources of information from one terminal, 24 hours a day.
Secondly, Federal Equipment Company maintains an extensive data library containing hundreds of technical manuals covering all types of shipboard related equipment from many different OEM’s. Thousands of OEM drawings in hard-copy, micro-film, or computer (CADD) format are readily available to assist our engineers in providing the best equipment to our customers in the quickest possible way.
During our years in this business many companies have gone out of business or decided to no longer support the equipment that they manufactured. This causes many problems in acquiring parts and finding data to support the equipment. In many cases, Federal Equipment Company has purchased the drawings from the OEM with exclusive rights to manufacture the parts and be considered the OEM for the equipment. This has happened specifically with the equipment manufactured by LINK-BELT Corporation, which Federal Equipment Company is now considered the OEM.
Federal Equipment Company maintains the proper level of security for maintaining in-house documentation and its acquisition by agreements. Federal Equipment Company also possesses an approved Military Critical Technical Data Agreement from the U.S. Government and Canada. Federal Equipment Company utilizes the latest Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) 3-D software and has powerful database capabilities to provided to our engineers and allow for increased accuracy, speed, and overall productivity, resulting in lower costs.
Documentation, Computerization, and Digitalization
Computerization and Digitalization at Federal Equipment Company is a key to our organizational success. We maintain extensive databases in each department, including sales, accounting, purchasing, engineering, production scheduling, shop equipment, maintenance records, customers, vendors, quality control, equipment calibration and inventory. These databases are accessible 24 hours a day to our field engineers and regional offices via modem capabilities, bringing the office to the field. This capability allows field engineers to access important information at any time, at any location, substantially reducing repair time in critical situations.
Federal Equipment Company documents all job information in our extensive ‘ship files’. We maintain records involving the repair and replacements of ship’s conveyors, elevators, and dumbwaiters and continuously update these files for ourselves as well as our customers. Periodically Federal Equipment Company is called upon by NAVSSES Representatives for information in these files to help them in acquiring data for this equipment. These files also include information covering a variety of ships and their respective equipment. All reports of “as found” conditions, including all discrepancies on equipment, and modifications will be contained in these files.
In some cases, equipment in the field requires modifications by the field engineers for many different reasons. These are handled by contacting OEM’s for their input and advice, along with approvals from the ships and SUPSHIPS, as required. These changes are documented on standard forms, tech manuals, PTD, etc. and all appropriate approvals are received prior to commencing with such modifications.
